Just because its portable and light doesn’t mean you should chuck your laptop into a a briefcase or gym bag. I know they can be a bit of a drag to lug around all the time, but there are far better and more comfortable options for carrying your notebook.
From soft sleeves to hard shell cases; from backpacks to tote bags; there is an option to match your style. It is important, that whatever bag you choose a bag either a backpack, carry-on or tote, that it has sturdy straps and a padded back. These are essential so that you don’t hurt yourself carrying your computer around.
How do you carry yours? I am lucky to be in a job where I can get away with dressing quite casually. Thus I tend to carry backpacks on most days. Fashion aside, practicality is a key issue.
4 Important questions to ask yourself are:-
- How does the bag feel on your back?
- What you carry everyday?
- How big is your laptop?
- Other than your laptop, what extra bits do you carry?
Find a backpack that ticks all your boxes and your computer will travel in comfort and style.
I have a bunch of bags that I use in rotation. Depending on where I am going and what I have to carry with me, I could be lugging around this 17-incher or a tiny messenger. I also take into consideration, what I am wearing that day. I don’t like to carry a backpack when I am wearing a suit. Sometimes practical, sometimes dressing up; I have a number of backpacks and a number of messenger bags. I’m always on the lookout for more though. I don’t think you can ever have enough.
I still don’t have all the ones I would really like to have, but here are a few of my favorites backpacks :-
- This huge, roomy beast comes with multiple pockets to handle everything;
- You can call this a Life pack as it will take everything you throw at it. A mesh pocket for a water bottle, ample space, even with a 17 inch laptop in it;
- Extra space for files, and I’m sure you can sneak in a change of clothes in this sucker;
- Reinforced sunglasses compartment ensures your pricey Warby Parker sunglasses don’t get creamed,
- A neat headphone out port for listening to a music player nestled in the bag;
- Comes in muted colors of black and navy;
- Got books? It gobbles them up too.

Ibex 17inch Notebook Backpack –
Another behemoth of a laptop bag that is well built to comfortably handle carrying your precious laptop.
- This bag is so good, that Dell lists it as the backpack to carry their 17 inch laptops in;
- Ever worried about plopping your laptop bag on the floor, but notice the puddle a little too late? How mad did that make u? With this baby, the pleather/plastic base allows u to do just that and not worry about damaging your computer;
- Another candidate for Life pack of the year. As big as it is, it is extremely comfortable, due to the thick and padded straps and the back is molded to encourage air flow at your back. This allows you to carry it for long without any discomfort;
- How many pockets do you need? With over 8, in different sizes and orientations, the Ibex still has a few left over.
Users have used the Ibex to even carry 2 laptops at a time, a mouse, bits & bobs and still had room to spare. Don’t believe me? See what he said…
Here is one on my wish list.
The LeDonne Leather Computer Backpack is simply beautiful!

- Nothing beats hand tooling for quality. This bag reeks of SUPER COOL!
